The Recent Study on Dementia
At the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Toronto on July 24, 2016, the new results of landmark study were presented. This study, called the ACTIVE trial, showed that one particular type of brain exercise—called “speed training” in the study—cut the long-term risk of dementia nearly in half. DynamicBrain is honoured to be the sole provider of the exercise in Canada, now available as Double Decision in BrainHQ, and offered at Brain Fitness classes across Ottawa. Press Release »
The human brain's aging process begins in our 20s. As we grow older, our brain does not register
the information that we receive through our senses as clearly and accurately as it used to. This
is partly because it processes the sensory information slower as well as having a reduced ability
to filter distractions and a lower level of brain chemicals. All together, we experience shorter
attention span, increased forgetfulness, slower reflexes, poor hearing, poor balance and mobility, and more.
The fitness revolution of the 80s and 90s taught us how important physical exercise is for our overall health and well-being. Brain fitness is simply the next natural step forward in that mindset transformation. Just like your physical body, it is now scientifically proven that the brain can and does change its physical form and function throughout a person's lifespan; and, just like the rest of our body, our brains require regular exercise. This naturally adaptive and organic change is known as brain plasticity.
Maintaining a healthy and fit brain requires just a little bit more than only exercising with BrainHQ. While the exercises on BrainHQ directly target various brain areas, there are other lifestyle elements that need to be considered for improved cognition. Nutrition, physical activity, social life, and sleep all contribute to our brain's health. That's why we also share information and helpful tips along with hands-on cognitive training in our Brain Fitness classes.
None of us can deny that growing older is a normal progression of life. Proactively striving to enrich the quality of our living experience along the way though is entirely a personal choice!
