Did you know that staying on your feet is a “brain job”? Your brain is constantly telling your body to make tiny adjustments in milliseconds and millimetres so that you don’t fall. For instance, if you trip on a crack in the sidewalk, the fact that you’re starting to fall is detected by both your balance system (your “inner ear”) and visual system (which notices that the world is starting to tilt), and your brain sends commands to your muscles to help keep you upright. When we’re young, our visual system works fast to notice that we’re off balance and reacts quickly to keep us upright. As we age, our brain slows down and doesn’t react fast enough to prevent falls.

New results from a large 10-year study show the risk of falls in older adults can be significantly reduced through a modest amount of training on BrainHQ’s visual exercises!

Please do your brain training today, and, if you still don’t have full access, join now.

Fresh insights into toxic proteins
One of the defining features of Alzheimer’s disease is the formation of large clumps of toxic proteins—called tangles—in brain cells. As these tangles spread, brain function declines. How exactly these tangles spread is the subject of a recent study led by the University of Edinburgh. The researchers focused their attention on synapses—the connections that allow brain cells to communicate and that are vital in brain health. Read on to hear about the fresh insights this study offers.

Unlocking the power of speech
Talking to young children has its benefits. Previous studies have indicated this, highlighting the positive impact talking to young children has on enhancing their language skills and expanding their vocabulary. Now, a recent study has revealed an intriguing connection between the quantity of speech children are exposed to and the levels of a substance that boosts signal efficiency in the brain. Check out the full article about this newly discovered connection.

Avoiding relapse
Misusing opioids can cause major health, social, and economic problems that come with profound stigma. The problem is so acute that it has been labelled the opioid crisis. Helping people struggling with opioid use disorders is a life-saving area of research. Recently, scientists have identified a crucial brain region that could hold the key to preventing relapse in people struggling with opioid use disorders. Learn how this breakthrough offers hope to those affected by the opioid crisis.

How music influences your brain’s neural symphony
It’s no secret that music has a powerful, beneficial impact on our cognition, but a ground-breaking new study goes deeper, uncovering the intricate workings of our brains when we listen to or create music. From activating multiple regions responsible for memory, emotion, and language processing to stimulating the release of feel-good chemicals like dopamine, this study showcases the remarkable effects of music on our cognition. Explore the study’s article and video to hear more about this harmony in the brain.

Sniffing out depression
Hungarian researchers have made an important discovery in the fight against depression. They’ve identified a key brain mechanism involved in depression that is curiously linked to our sense of smell. Targeting this smell-related mechanism could help counter the effects of depression by restoring brain rhythm. Read on to find out more about this discovery.

Your Brain Holds the Key to Safer Driving!
Your brain is one of the most important pieces of safety equipment when you get behind the wheel of a car. As we age, our reaction times slow down and our field of vision decreases. This means our safety on the road is also reduced. By spending only 10 hours doing the engaging driving cognitive training program you can save your life and the lives of others on the road!
