The Pros of Internet Usage on the Brain

Memory

Love surfing the net? Some good news is in store for you then. Featured in a recent edition of the Oxford Journals of Gerontology, the research shows that digital literacy could be contributing to better performance in delayed memory recall based on the data gathered from 6,400 British adults over the age of 50. Serving to delay the impact of cognitive decline, the study results found that digital literacy led to the use of either more efficient cognitive networks or increased brain and cognitive reserves among those persons aged between 50 and 89.

  • Use of Internet / E-mail may result in better performance in delayed recall among older population
  • Digital literacy may help reduce cognitive decline

Attention
Are you a video gamer or perhaps a devoted BrainHQ brain training enthusiast? An extensive European study published in PLOS ONE also found that there was a positive correlation of video game playing with the thickness of the left frontal cortical in adolescents, who were the key focus of this research.

  • Thicker cortical positively correlated with hours of video gaming
  • No association found between increased BMI and video gaming

Focus

There’s no denying that the Internet is a prime source of constant distraction that impacts all spheres of our professional, social and personal lives. Maintaining one’s focus for an extended period of time while trying to complete a given task on the world wide web can indeed be a daunting challenge! That being said, the sheer scalability of the Internet has made it possible for most individuals to access technologies that previously were financially out of reach. And so it goes with clinically proven brain training programs that are now available at a very small fraction of what they cost just a few years ago. So why does this matter you may ask? Quite simply because scientifically based, targeted online brain training programs can and do help in retraining our ability for sustained focus. This ultimately helps you in navigating the web and more importantly, in your daily living activities.
